Q – Are ignition interlock devices required after all DUI convictions?
A – No. However, since January 1, 2014, the following people will generally have to have ignition interlock devices installed in their vehicles after DUI convictions:

- Those who refused to submit to BAC testing during their DUI stop
- Those who are considered to be “Persistent Drunk Drivers”
- Those who are considered to be “Habitual Traffic Offenders”
- Those who have a prior DUI conviction.
There are various cases also in which people can get their driving privileges reinstated early if they agree to install and maintain ignition interlock devices on their vehicles, and people can find out more about these options from the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles.
