As thousands of people in Denver celebrated the 4/20 weekend, Denver law enforcement officials focused on targeting marijuana clubs for their alleged violations of Colorado pot laws. According to the Denver Police Department (DPD), two private pot clubs – POTUS Club and The Grassroots Break Room – were raided by Denver cops this past weekend. During these raids, 10 people were cited for alleged marijuana offenses.
A spokesperson for DPD, Raquel Lopez, has noted that, at this time, it is not clear what prompted the raids of these two clubs.
Will The Charges for these Alleged Marijuana Offenses Stick?
The alleged marijuana offenses related to the citations handed out at these private pot clubs over the 4/20 weekend included (but may not be limited to):
- Unlawful operation of an unlicensed marijuana business
- Sale of marijuana
- Distribution of marijuana
- Public consumption
- Merchant guard (including security guard) violations.
Given that the details regarding why these raids were conducted, as well as what was found by DPD during these raids, remain confidential (due to the ongoing investigation), it is unclear at the time whether these allegations will stick and, if so, whether the impacts would be more significant than paying fines.
Numbers for Colorado Marijuana DUIs May Come Soon
The recent DPD raids of private Colorado pot clubs seems to underscore law enforcement’s continued focus on curbing marijuana offenses. As data from Colorado law enforcement agencies from the past weekend is compiled and reviewed, it will be interesting to see how many drivers were arrested/cited for Colorado marijuana DUIs over the 4/20 weekend.
As more news about that data becomes available, we will report it to you here. In the meantime, share your comments on this topic with us on social media – and contact us if you need the best defense against marijuana and/or DUI charges.
