343 DUI Arrests Made in Colorado over NYE Enforcement Period

Over the 2014 New Year’s Eve (NYE) enforcement period, 343 DUI arrests were reportedly made by law enforcement agencies throughout Colorado, according to data recently released by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

This enforcement period, which started on December 30^th and ended on January 5^th, was the last of 12 stepped-up DUI enforcement periods promoted by CDOT for 2014. As CDOT reports, all of these DUI enforcement periods in 2014 resulted in a total of just over 8,000 DUI arrests in Colorado. Over the same period in 2013, there were reportedly 9,060 DUI arrests.

Breaking down the numbers, here’s a simplified overview of where and when the DUI arrests over the NYE enforcement period occurred:

• Nearly 1/3 of the DUI arrests occurred in Denver and Aurora, with 47 and 49 DUI arrests taking place in these regions (respectively).
• 50 DUI arrests were made by the Colorado State Patrol.
• The majority of the DUI arrests were made between New Year’s Eve (i.e., December 31^st) and January 2^nd.

As Darrell Lingk, the director of CDOT’s Office of Transportation Safety has explained in relation to these numbers and CDOT’s DUI enforcement efforts:
